CHIC-010 - Classical Gas (Patter)
“Classical Gas" is a guitar piece written and recorded by Mason Williams and first released in 1968. It has truly become a guitar classic in its own right. This release was painstaking put together to capture the beauty of the guitars, while laying a solid rhythm track foundation that will keep the dancers moving. This is the first of what we hope will be many patter/hoedown releases for Chic Recordings.
CHIC-054 - Fire Squared
This hot new patter was introduced at the CALLERLAB convention in Richmond, VA. It's a mash-up of two very different songs that carry the same name, "Fire." For us, it's "Fire" to the power of two...OR... "Fire Squared!" We hope you'll enjoy this smoking hot track featuring "Fire" a la Pointer Sisters, and "Fire" a la The Ohio Players.
You'll notice we added a hint of the background vocal "catch-phrases" of each song, but if BGV is not your thing...we've got you covered. Your purchase includes a second track with no BGV at all. We always give you the choice!
CHIC-033 - The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly
We found one more iconic movie theme that was just begging to be made for square dancing! We tried to capture elements from both the original Ennio Morricone arrangement and the later Hugo Montenegro hit. This is a great choice for your Western-themed dances! Dances like a dream, and the dancers love it!
CHIC-036 - Greater
Based on the song by MercyMe, "Greater" is a song that hooked me from the first moment I heard it. The opening "oohs" grab your attention, and when the dance beat starts the feet just have to move. Dancers love this groove!
CHIC-047 - Le Chic!
Our "Le Chic!" patter features a medley of three of the biggest hits from the band, Chic. Chic was wildly popular in the disco/nightclub dance era, and we have recreated our own mash-up of what we feel are their best dance grooves. Starting with their smash hit, "Le Freak," transitioning to the cool groove of "Everybody Dance," and then finishing with a little "Good Times." We think your dancers will have a great time dancing to this very Chic patter!
CHIC-028 - Pink Panther Patter
“The Pink Panther" is another classic Henry Mancini theme that has been begging to be adapted for square dance patter. Once again, Jimmy Mac worked his magic as we laid all the iconic pieces of the Pink Panther theme on top of a solid "dance" foundation. Dancers are sure to love this one!
CHIC-059 - Theme from Shaft
The “Theme from Shaft” was written and recorded by Isaac Hayes in 1971 as the theme music for the new MGM film. It was never intended to be released as a single, but it became so popular that a shortened and edited version was created and released two months after the movie soundtrack. It charted in multiple genres (Soul Singles/Easy Listening/etc) as well as capturing the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 in November of 1971.
CHIC-057 - Spanish Eyes
"Spanish Eyes" is a well-known song that doesn't need much introduction. First made popular by Al Martino in 1966, and subsequently by many others including Engelbert Humperdinck. In 1998, Engelbert Humperdinck's son had the idea to release a "dance" album featuring many of his father's hit, but with new upbeat dance rhythm tracks. I loved the "danced-up" version of "Spanish Eyes," but found it difficult for calling due to the overriding vocal track left in the mix, and a rhythm track that wasn't consistent throughout. With a great idea as the foundation, Vic Kaaria and Jimmy Mac went to work creating a brand-new version with a strong dance beat throughout, and no vocal in the way. The end result is a beautiful piece of patter music and that dances as smoothly as any piece of music I've found.
CHIC-014 - Whatever Lola Wants
Chic goes big for our first anniversary release with a show tune from the musical "Damn Yankees." The Argentine Tango feel of our "Whatever Lola Wants" was inspired by the Gotan Project's/Sarah Vaughan dance mix. We reached out to two callers with "show tune" experience to record the vocals and they did not disappoint. Johnny Preston (courtesy of Royal Records) delivers a fun, stylized version of the song, while Deborah Carroll-Jones proves that she IS Lola. By request, we also produced an extended cut of the tune for calling Patter. The Patter mix is a different arrangement than the singing calls, and includes additional instrumentation. The three tunes are being sold separately because they were produced separately.
